If you carry a ladder on your roof, you already know it’s one of the most valuable — and most exposed — bits of kit you own. It travels in plain sight, it’s quick to grab, and it’s a prime target the moment you’re parked up overnight or away from the vehicle.
The Wedgetail Trade Ladder Lock Kit is built to solve exactly that.
In this guide, we’ll walk through what it does, how it works, and when to use it on the job.
Securing vs Locking — Two Different Jobs
It’s worth being clear on the distinction, because they’re not the same thing.
The Technician ladder adapter kit holds your ladder in place while you drive. Paired with the side strap, your ladder is locked down and secure wherever you’re heading — no movement, no rattle, no worries in transit.
But transport security and theft security are two different problems. A strap stops your ladder moving. It doesn’t stop someone walking off with it.
That’s where the Ladder Lock comes in.
How the Ladder Lock Works
The Ladder Lock is a simple, purpose-built anti-theft addition that:
- Secures to the underside of the platform bar
- Wraps around a ladder rung
- Encloses the bar
- Locks in with a key
Once it’s on, your ladder is physically locked to the rack. It’s a key lock, so there’s no combination to remember and no extra hardware to keep track of.
When To Use It
The strap does the work during the day. The Ladder Lock is for the moments your gear is sitting unattended and exposed:
- Overnight — parked at home, at a job site, or wherever the ute’s left out
- On-site — when you’re away from the vehicle and out of sightline
- Anywhere theft is a risk — busy car parks, street parking, unfamiliar areas
It won’t stop a determined thief with the right tools, but it does what every good deterrent does: it slows them down and makes your ladder the harder target. Most opportunistic theft is exactly that — opportunistic. Take the easy grab away and most walk on.
Built for Real Trade Use
Like the rest of the Wedgetail Trade range, the Ladder Lock Kit is built for tradies who rely on their gear day in, day out. It’s a small addition that buys you real peace of mind — knowing your ladder is still there when you get back to the truck.
