Comparison

Wedgetail vs Ironman 4x4 roof rack for the Prado 250

Short answer

The biggest differences are the published ratings and the warranty. Every Wedgetail is rated 100% off-road to its full dynamic rating, with static = 3.5 x dynamic (350 or 525 kg static); Ironman 4x4 lists its Raid Roof Rack for the Prado 250 at a total roof load limit of over 100 kg dynamic, with no static or off-road figure. Warranty is 10 years on Wedgetail Adventure, and Ironman's warranty table does not list the Raid. Wedgetail racks are made in Bayswater, Victoria, Australia with a welded main frame, and third-party accessories fit, some with a 10 mm spacer to clear the strength lip.

Side by side

Wedgetail Adventure platforms vs the Ironman 4x4 Raid Roof Rack for the Toyota Prado 250 (SKU IRR125). The Raid is the platform Ironman 4x4 lists for the Prado 250, so it is the closest equivalent to an Adventure platform; the Atlas range has no Prado 250 kit listed. What the rating difference means

On a Wedgetail, the dynamic rating listed for your Prado is the figure on sealed and unsealed roads alike, and the static rating for a parked rooftop tent is 3.5 times that. Ironman 4x4's Raid page gives a dynamic roof load limit and 25 kg per cross beam, and tells you to check the vehicle maker's roof load limit; it does not publish a static or off-road figure. The Toyota Prado guide lists each Wedgetail Prado fitment with its rating and price.

Build and weight

A Wedgetail Adventure platform has a welded main frame; the other parts bolt or click together and it ships flat pack. Ironman 4x4 describes the Raid as modular, with as many or as few cross beams as you need, each held by six hidden fasteners, and lists the rack at 36 kg.

Accessory compatibility

The lip around a Wedgetail platform is there for strength. Some third-party accessories need a 10 mm spacer to clear it, and with that they fit. There is no Wedgetail spacer kit; the accessory compatibility guide explains the lip and the spacer. For the Prado 250, Wedgetail also makes bonnet aerial and light mounts and a rear window molle panel.

Comparing price

Both prices are for a rack made for the Prado 250. Compare the complete kit for your vehicle, and see the Wedgetail facts for who makes the racks and how they are rated.
