What each Wedgetail range is made from

On every range the main frame sections are welded and the other parts bolt or click together, so the rack ships flat-pack. Wedgetail does not publish salt or corrosion figures for any range; whichever you choose, follow the cleaning routine below.

Keep the roof load light on the sand

• Top-heavy vehicles roll. Queensland Parks says top-loaded vehicles roll easily on K'gari and that soft foredunes can collapse under a vehicle. Pack light and stow heavy gear low inside.
• Hire vehicles: Queensland Parks says it is illegal to load luggage on the roof of a 4WD hire vehicle on K'gari.
• On the roof: recovery tracks on the recovery tracks bracket, a shovel in the shovel holder, an awning, light camping gear.
• Inside: water, fuel, the fridge and tools.
• Your limit: the lower of the platform's dynamic rating and the vehicle maker's roof limit. See roof load limits by vehicle.

After the beach: cleaning and checks

1. Rinse the sand and salt off the rack, the mounts and the accessories.
2. Wash with a mild soap and water solution and a soft brush or cloth to stop dirt, debris and salt building up.
3. Check for damage or wear, tighten any loose bolts and replace damaged parts. Carry the spare fasteners kit on the trip.
4. If the rack is off the vehicle between trips, store it somewhere dry and cool, out of direct sunlight.
