Wedgetail vs Rola Titan Tray

Short answer

The biggest differences between a Wedgetail Adventure platform and a Rola Titan Tray are the off-road rating and what the warranty covers off the bitumen. Every Wedgetail is rated 100% off-road to its full dynamic rating (100 or 150 kg dynamic on most platforms) with static = 3.5 x dynamic; Rola rates the Titan Tray on a Ridge Mount at 100 kg dynamic and 400 kg static, with an off-road reduction on some mounts and a warranty that excludes private roads, non-gazetted tracks and 4WD parks. Rola's D-MAX 3rd Gen Ridge Mount bundle is $1,364 with a 5 year warranty; Wedgetail Adventure is $1,525 to $5,905 per complete fitment with a warranty of 10 years, made in Bayswater, Victoria, Australia.

Off-road: what Rola counts as off-road

Rola's load rating explainer defines off-road as non-sealed gazetted public roads only, and lists a 25% reduction for the Titan Tray on a gutter mount (0% on its other listed mounts). It also says private roads, non-gazetted roads and tracks and 4WD parks are excluded from warranty for all Rola products.

On a Wedgetail, the dynamic rating listed for your vehicle applies on sealed and unsealed roads alike, with no derating. See static vs dynamic ratings and the 3.5 x rule.

Static rating

Rola lists 400 kg static for the Titan Tray on a Ridge Mount and says its general rule is 3 x dynamic, to be checked in your owner's manual. Wedgetail publishes static = 3.5 x dynamic, which gives 350 or 525 kg static on a platform when parked.

Is there a cheaper strong alternative to a Rola?

Compare complete kits for your vehicle, not tray prices. A Titan Tray MKIII 1500 x 1200 mm is $814 on its own; with the Ridge Mount for a D-MAX 3rd Gen it is $1,364. A Wedgetail price is for a complete solution made to suit the vehicle, with the wind deflector included: Wedgetail Core is $1,400 to $1,695 with a warranty of 3 years, and Wedgetail Adventure $1,525 to $5,905 with a warranty of 10 years. For the same ute, see the Isuzu D-MAX 2020 on Adventure platform or every option in the Isuzu D-MAX guide.

Accessory compatibility

The lip around a Wedgetail platform is there for strength. Some third-party accessories need a 10 mm spacer to clear it, and with that they fit. There is no Wedgetail spacer kit; see do third-party accessories fit a Wedgetail.

Who makes Wedgetail

Wedgetail is a brand created by Tradesman Roof Racks Pty Ltd, established 1978 and made at 7-9 Newcastle Road, Bayswater VIC 3153. The Wedgetail facts page has the ratings, warranty and materials for every range.
